154 (1979) sees Wire abandon punk roots for darker, more experimental territory. The album moves from the eerie “I Should Have Known Better” to jagged tracks like “Two People in a Room” and “The 15th,” through ritualistic soundscapes like “A Touching Display.” Its highlight, “Map Ref. 41°N 93°W,” remains one of Wire’s most stunning achievements.
