Studio One Women, 18 years after its original release, remains a highly sought-after title in the Studio One series. This special edition showcases ska, rocksteady, reggae, roots, dub, and disco mixes by Jamaica’s top female voices like Marcia Griffiths, Rita Marley (The Soulettes), Hortense Ellis, and Jennifer Lara—many tracks previously rare and expensive Jamaican singles.
The collection also honours women behind the scenes, including Doris Darlington, Clement Dodd’s mother and Jamaica’s first female DJ, Norma Dodd, Enid Cumberland, and Sister Ignatius of Alpha Boys School—key figures who shaped Studio One’s legacy and nurtured generations of legendary musicians.
