The Beggars Arkive reissue of Tubeway Army’s self-titled 1978 debut, mastered at Abbey Road from analog tape, captures Gary Numan’s transition from punk to pioneering electronic music. During these sessions, Numan discovered the Minimoog synthesizer, shaping his future sound. Dubbed “garagey sci-fi rock,” the album laid the foundation for his electronic breakthrough. Following this, Tubeway Army’s next album, Replicas, featured the synth-driven UK No.1 hit “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?”. Afterward, Numan dropped the band name, continuing his career solo with the same musicians.
