By 1994, Therapy? had built a strong reputation with their intense blend of hard rock and indie. Formed in Larne, Northern Ireland, the trio—Andy Cairns, Michael McKeegan, and Fyfe Ewing—started in 1989 and signed to Wiiija before moving to A&M Records. Their 1992 album Nurse broke into the UK Top 40, and with producer Chris Sheldon, they crafted Troublegum. Featuring hits like "Screamager" and "Turn," Troublegum delivered 45 minutes of powerful, seamless rock, including a notable cover of Joy Division’s "Isolation." The album reached No. 5 UK, went Gold, and earned a Mercury Prize nomination, remaining fresh and influential decades later.
