The Rolling Stones’ debut studio album, released by Decca Records in the UK on April 17, 1964, was produced by then-managers Andrew Loog Oldham and Eric Easton. The sleeve notes proudly declare, “The Rolling Stones are more than just a group – they are a way of life.” The album topped the UK charts for a total of 12 weeks. Its American counterpart, with a slightly different tracklist, was titled England’s Newest Hit Makers. Reflecting the band’s deep love for R&B, the album features only one Jagger-Richards original, “Tell Me (You’re Coming Back),” alongside covers like “Route 66,” “Carol,” and “Can I Get A Witness.”
