Known for blending alternative and outlaw country, rock, blues, R&B, and Tejano/Tex-Mex, the album was recorded across studios in Nashville, Santa Fe, and Louisiana. Moon and Stars balances classic Mavericks sounds with fresh genre-bending innovation, featuring guest artists Sierra Ferrell, Maggie Rose, Nicole Atkins, and band member Max Abrams, with co-writers including Bernie Taupin and Sam Hollander.
