After a decade-long hiatus, The Mars Volta return with a self-titled album that redefines their sound. Founded by Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala from At The Drive-In’s ashes, they blended Latin roots, punk, and futuristic visions into complex, emotionally charged music. Joined by bassist Eva Gardner, drummer Willy Rodriguez Quiñones, and keyboardist Marcel Rodríguez-López, this album ditches their earlier abrasive prog style for a mature, focused sound rich with Caribbean rhythms and subtle brilliance. Featuring dark sci-fi lyrics and pop-driven melodies, it’s their most accessible and refined work yet.
