4AD welcomes Benjamin Woods and his project The Golden Dregs with their third album, On Grace and Dignity. Inspired by Woods’ hometown of Truro, Cornwall—a place marked by beauty, gentrification, and struggle—the album reflects on loss, survival, and community. Written during a bleak 2020 winter while Woods worked as a laborer, it channels influences like Raymond Carver and Lydia Davis through his deep, resonant voice. Mixed by Ali Chant, the album blends personal reflection with sharp social commentary.
The album’s artwork features a detailed HO-scale model of a fictional Cornish town, Polgras, representing each song’s story and capturing the dual realities of rugged beauty and harsh reality that define Cornwall and Woods’ music.
