The Beatles played two sets over consecutive nights at a venue with only 3,000 seats but over 50,000 applications. Around 300,000 people lined the 10-mile route from Adelaide Airport to the city center to see them, giving the band a “heroes' welcome.” Support acts included Sounds Incorporated and Johnny Devlin. Due to Ringo’s sudden tonsillitis, session drummer Jimmy Nicol filled in—an experience he later called the worst thing that ever happened to him. Nicol reportedly inspired the Sgt. Pepper’s song “Getting Better.” Despite no drum mic, the sound quality was excellent, showcasing the band’s tight harmonies and flawless guitar work.
