In 1975, Steve Hillage left Gong to pursue a solo career, releasing the successful Fish Rising with some Gong members. He followed with L (1976) and Motivation Radio (1977), continuing his psychedelic rock style.
On March 20, 1977, Hillage’s L tour concert in Germany was recorded and aired on TV. His touring band included Miquette Giraudy, drummer Clive Bunker, bassist Colin Bass, and keyboardists Phil Hodge and Basil Brooks—none from his studio sessions.
