Before his breakthrough with Late Night Final, Richard Hawley was mainly known as a guitarist for the Longpigs and Pulp. His 2001 self-titled debut mini-album revealed his rich crooning vocals and songwriting talent, blending noir-inspired chamber pop with influences like Scott Walker, Roy Orbison, and Nick Drake. The seven tracks are timeless, atmospheric, and genre-defying, featuring dreamy guitars and subtle percussion. This superb solo debut set the stage for Hawley’s distinctive style and growing cult following.
