Recorded with legendary producer Dave Fridmann at Tarbox Road Studios, Hotel Usona is Protomartyr’s seventh album, confronting the anxieties and horrors of the present day. Joe Casey imagines America as an ageing hotel, with songs exploring modern paralysis, AI, deportation, patriotism, violence and fatherhood.
Musically, the Detroit post-punk group sound more powerful than ever, with Greg Ahee drawing on Middle Eastern influences and ’50s exotica, Leonard’s striking drumming and vivid horn arrangements, all given weight and clarity by Fridmann’s production.
