As part of Pixies' 40th anniversary celebrations, Bossanova (1990) returns in a newly remastered edition on black vinyl and CD, following the first official vinyl pressing of their 4AD B-Sides compilation. Engineer Kevin Vanbergen revisited the band's original analogue tapes to create new masters that reveal fresh layers and detail in this beloved album.
The band's third studio album, Bossanova continued their successful collaboration with producer Gil Norton following the platinum-selling Doolittle. Released during a highly creative period for the band, it arrived alongside the growing success of Kim Deal's other project, The Breeders.
Featuring standout tracks including "Allison," "Dig for Fire," and "Velouria," along with the band's first album cover version, "Cecilia Ann" (originally by The Surftones), Bossanova explored a more atmospheric side of Pixies. Surf rock and space rock influences came to the forefront, while Black Francis' cryptic lyrics and recurring science-fiction themes helped shape the album's distinctive identity.
