The quickfire 1981 follow-up to the New Age Steppers’ debut, Action Battlefield offers a more melodic and accessible spin on dub post-punk. Ari Up (The Slits) steps into the spotlight with fierce, charismatic vocals, while a young Neneh Cherry makes her debut on “My Love.” Featuring radical reworks of reggae tracks by Bim Sherman, Horace Andy, and B.B. Seaton, the album is powered by a tight rhythm section and dubbed to perfection by producer Adrian Sherwood.
