For Out of Tune, Mojave 3 expanded their lineup and sound, with Simon Rowe and Alan Forrester joining as full-time members. Living and working together on a farm in Cornwall, the band developed a communal, collaborative approach that led to a bigger, more upbeat and richly textured sound.
Produced by Tony Doogan at Cava Studios in Glasgow, the album underwent extensive reworking and overdubbing, incorporating pedal steel, brass, and lush arrangements. The result is a polished, warm record that leans heavily into the influence of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Gram Parsons, while moving further away from the shoegaze roots of Slowdive. It also marks a significant step forward in Neil Halstead’s songwriting and the band's evolution toward a fuller, more confident Americana-inspired sound.
