For Record Store Day 2022, Universal Music released Opus One, Mike Oldfield’s original demo that evolved into the iconic Tubular Bells. Recorded as a teenager using homemade tape loops and simple tools, this demo was initially rejected by many labels before Virgin Records approved it, launching both Oldfield’s career and Virgin itself in 1973. Previously unreleased until 2009, Opus One now debuts on vinyl in a limited edition with new cover art, celebrating Tubular Bells’ 50th anniversary.
