The World Needs a Hero is Megadeth’s ninth studio album, released in 2001 as a return to their heavier metal roots after the softer Risk. It reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 and marked lineup changes, featuring drummer Jimmy DeGrasso and lead guitarist Al Pitrelli. The album is Megadeth’s longest to date and includes their longest track, “When.” It also reintroduced mascot Vic Rattlehead on the cover for the first time since 1990.
