Mantronix defies simple genre labels, blending hip hop, electro, funk, and house into a pioneering, genre-bending sound. Formed in the early ’80s by Kurtis Mantronik and MC Tee, their debut Mantronix: The Album and hit single “Fresh is the Word” made a lasting impact, influencing artists like Beastie Boys and The Prodigy. Beyond performing, Mantronik was a key A&R figure for Sleeping Bag Records, shaping the careers of acts like T La Rock and Just-Ice.
