Introducing La Nouvelle Musique—Joanna Beck and Ian de Silva, a new duo for Fruits de Mer Records. Following a limited lathe-cut single, their debut album arrives on vinyl.
London-based La Nouvelle Musique describe their sound as cinematic psychedelia, blending elements of psych folk, folktronica and atmospheric pop. With echoes of Nico and Françoise Hardy, vocals that recall Siouxsie Sioux and Trish Keenan, and arrangements with a widescreen feel, their music creates a distinctive blend of intimacy and grandeur.
All but one track are written by the duo, with the exception of Sandy Denny's Crazy Lady Blues. Beck (vocals/bass) is a composer and performance artist with work spanning electroacoustic music, sound art, theatre and film, while guitarist Ian de Silva has previous releases through Rough Trade and The Medicine Label.
The pair write, record and produce their music themselves at Berwick Street Studios in Soho, creating a self-contained sound that is both experimental and richly melodic.
