Originally released in 1984, World Shut Your Mouth marked Julian Cope’s solo debut following the end of The Teardrop Explodes. Closest in spirit to his former band, the album blends pastoral pop with eccentric flourishes, featuring oboe by Kate St. John and Teardrops drummer Gary Dwyer. Highlights include “Strasbourg,” “Kolly Kibber's Birthday,” and the reflective “Head Hang Low.” Reissued on 180g vinyl, it captures Cope’s early transition into a singular solo artist.
