Josephine Foster’s No More Lamps in the Morning is a stripped-back, intimate collection spanning her songwriting career, from Born Heller (2004) through This Coming Gladness (2008) and I’m a Dreamer (2013). Accompanied by husband Victor Herrero on Portuguese guitar, Foster creates an expansive, free-flowing folk sound that places her poetic lyrics at its centre. The album also features musical settings of poems by Rudyard Kipling and James Joyce, with Gyða Valtýsdóttir’s cello appearing on two tracks. Recorded live to tape in Hudson, New York, in 2014, it captures Foster’s music as both wandering and rooted.
