In August 1961, the John Coltrane Quintet, featuring visionary multi-instrumentalist Eric Dolphy, performed at New York’s Village Gate. Recently uncovered recordings from this engagement reveal 90 minutes of rare live music, including classics like “My Favorite Things” and a stunning bass clarinet feature on “When Lights Are Low.” This unique set also includes the only known live, non-studio version of Coltrane’s “Africa,” showcasing his evolving sound and deep African influences during a pivotal moment in his career.
