James Dean Bradfield’s Even in Exile, his second solo album, is a vivid and moving tribute to Chilean poet-singer-activist Victor Jara. With lyrics by poet Patrick Jones, the album blends biography and dreamlike abstraction, set to some of Bradfield’s most affecting melodies. Influenced by a wide range of artists—from Rush and Pink Floyd to Kamasi Washington and Violetta Parra—the album features ten original tracks and a cover of Jara’s La Partida, all largely performed by Bradfield himself and recorded in South Wales.
