For the first time since 2007, Interpol worked with a producer—Dave Fridmann—during sessions in upstate New York from late 2017 to early 2018. Influenced by soul drummers and ’80s funk producers, drummer Sam crafted grooves that add swing to tracks like “If You Really Love Nothing” and “Stay in Touch.” Marauder balances mood with rhythm, while frontman Paul Banks opens up lyrically, drawing from personal experiences for the first time, bringing a more autobiographical and evocative touch to the band’s signature sound.
