Ibibio Sound Machine - Electricity

Ibibio Sound Machine’s fourth and most forward-looking album, Electricity, channels the turbulence of recent years into a darker, edgier Afrofuturist vision. Produced in full collaboration with Hot Chip—the group’s first time working so closely with outside producers—the album fuses their mutual love of Francis Bebey and Giorgio Moroder into a gleaming, supercharged sound. Formed in 2013 by Eno Williams and Max Grunhard, the band here embraces a richer, more immersive partnership than on past projects, creating a vibrant mix that nods to influences like Jonzun Crew, Grace Jones, William Onyeabor, Tom Tom Club, and Bootsy Collins.
