Trivium frontman Matt Heafy steps beyond the band with Ibaraki, a deeply personal solo project inspired by Japanese mythology, black metal, and his own heritage. Named after a fearsome demon, Ibaraki reflects Heafy’s artistic evolution and emotional journey, including themes of identity and family tragedy. Sparked by a connection with black metal icon Ihsahn—who produced the album and co-wrote some tracks—the project blossomed during the pandemic. With contributions from Trivium bandmates, Ihsahn’s family, and Gerard Way, Ibaraki is a bold, multifaceted expression of Heafy's creative and cultural voice.
