Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia, Hannah Peel’s third album originally released in 2017, is a seven-movement odyssey blending analogue synthesizers with a 29-piece colliery brass band. Re-issued via Real World Records, it tells the story of an elderly electronic music pioneer from Barnsley dreaming of seeing Cassiopeia.
The Tubular Brass ensemble, recorded live at Barnsley Civic Theatre, merges with Peel’s layered synth production to create a unique, collaborative sound. The re-issue features remastered audio on berry-coloured vinyl and updated artwork by Jonathan Barnbrook.
Rooted in Peel’s Yorkshire brass band background, the album fuses powerful brass, sub-bass synths, vintage electronics, and intimate found sounds, capturing both grandeur and human fragility.
