Grinderman formed in 2005 while Nick Cave was working on a Bad Seeds album, aiming to capture a raw, primal sound like his earlier band The Birthday Party. With Martyn Casey, Warren Ellis, and Jim Sclavunos, they wrote and demoed songs in 2006, then recorded their self-titled debut in 2007 with producer Nick Launay. The album, featuring singles like "No Pussy Blues," earned critical praise. They reunited for Grinderman 2 in 2010 but disbanded in 2011, as announced by Cave.
