Kazakh-British artist Galya Bisengalieva’s second album Polygon explores the haunting legacy of the Semipalatinsk Test Site, a Soviet nuclear testing zone in Kazakhstan. Following her 2020 debut Aralkum, Polygon continues her focus on Kazakh history, this time spotlighting a largely overlooked tragedy that produced more fallout than Chernobyl. Each track is named after locations within the site, once thought uninhabited but rich in cultural and ecological significance.
