Mr Bad Guy is Freddie Mercury’s only solo studio album, released in 1985 while Queen was on a recording break. All eleven tracks were written by Mercury. Though echoes of Queen’s sound remain, he explores new territory: the opening track signals a shift from guitar-driven rock to lavish, synth-heavy production. The single “I Was Born to Love You” pushes disco and dance-pop to playful extremes Queen never attempted. Mercury blends piano and synthesizers on dramatic pieces like “Made in Heaven” and “Your Kind of Lover,” the latter evolving from a simple piano ballad into a lively, Latin-influenced pop song.
