Label: Fruits de Mer
"A magical formula that transports the listener through the intoxicating blend of prog, psych and acid folk—looking both to the past and an imagined future." — Dimensions In Sound And Space
Fifth Daughter make their Fruits de Mer debut with Stellar Season, a progressive/psychedelic album inspired by artists including Jade Warrior, Jimmie Spheeris, Van der Graaf Generator and the Incredible String Band. The duo of Nicholas Whittaker (Diagonal) and James Howarth (formerly Running Dogs, with collaborations including The KLF and Martin "Youth" Glover) conceived the album during the COVID lockdowns. It's a loose concept piece about a distant rural society whose pursuit of endless summer teaches them the value of the changing seasons.
Recorded between 2021 and 2023, with guest appearances from fellow Diagonal members Luke Foster and Dave Wileman plus ambient guitarist Will Howes, Stellar Season blends adventurous instrumentation—sitar, exotic percussion, synthesisers, acoustic guitars and woodwinds—with songs that range from intimate to euphoric.
