The title of 2001’s In Torment in Hell may well have been referring to Deicide’s collective state of mind as well as offering another example of their usual dark metaphysical / religious musings. The band was at each other’s throats and at war with their label (this was their last album for Roadrunner), which led to less-than-kind reviews from fans and even the band itself. But now, given the benefit of time, its even-more-breakneck-than-usual tempos and tunes like “Child of God” and the title track add up to another head-spinning death metal anti-exorcism.
