The first in a series of archival releases from Cranes, John Peel Sessions (1989–1990) gathers the band’s two Peel recordings for the first time.

Formed in mid-’80s Portsmouth by siblings Jim and Alison Shaw, Cranes debuted with the sought-after cassette Fuse (1986) and their first album Self-Non-Self (1989). That release drew the attention of John Peel, leading to two BBC sessions—the second introducing Mark Francombe and Matt Cope, who would later help shape classic albums for Dedicated, including Forever (now celebrating its 30th anniversary).

Released on the band’s own Dadaphonic label, the collection features artwork by acclaimed v23/4AD designer Chris Bigg (Pixies, Cocteau Twins, The Breeders).
