During 2020’s lockdown, CHAI reimagined their creative process, trading high-energy, crowd-driven recordings for a more introspective, home-recorded approach. Their third album WINK—and first for Sub Pop—features their mellowest, most personal songs to date, blending R&B, hip-hop, and their signature pop-punk style. Collaborating remotely via Garageband and Zoom, the band embraced minimalism and vulnerability, with help from outside producers and a guest spot from Ric Wilson. WINK captures CHAI’s evolution while staying true to their playful, genre-defying spirit.
