This set features five classic early-’70s Aretha Franklin albums—This Girl’s In Love With You (1970), Spirit in the Dark (1970), Young, Gifted and Black (1972), Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky) (1973), and Let Me In Your Life (1974)—all remastered from the original analog tapes by Chris Bellman. Produced mainly by Tom Dowd, Arif Mardin, and Jerry Wexler, with Quincy Jones on Hey Now Hey, the collection includes historic moments like Aretha’s first commercial release of The Beatles’ “Let It Be.” A sixth bonus LP of session alternates, outtakes, and demos is also included (vinyl only), and all formats feature booklets with notes by Gail Mitchell and David Nathan.
