Common Primitives is the second collaborative album from Andy Bell (Ride, Oasis) and Essex-based harp and synth duo Masal. Blending kosmische, astral jazz, ambient textures, and Turkish folk influences, the album expands on the immersive sound of their 2023 debut Tidal Love Numbers—included here on vinyl for the first time.
Built from improvised sessions, the seven tracks are richer and more intricate, drawing inspiration from Pharoah Sanders, looping guitar textures, traditional Turkish melodies, and krautrock. The result is a meditative, genre-spanning journey that moves from the nostalgic vocals of "After Kâtibim" to the driving finale, "Rudi's Dream – The Third Bardo."
