With Melancholia, Rick Wakeman completes his trilogy of solo piano albums that began with Piano Portraits (2017) and Piano Odyssey (2018). Turning inward, this deeply personal work captures Wakeman at his most introspective and emotionally raw. Sparked by a quiet improvisation later titled “Garo,” the album grew into a cohesive suite recorded on a Steinway Model D with producer Erik Jordan at The Granary Studio. The result is a rich, resonant collection that reveals the purest expression of Wakeman’s artistry.
