A Broken Frame is Depeche Mode’s pivotal sophomore album and the first without founding member Vince Clarke, who was the principal songwriter on their debut Speak & Spell. Stepping into the songwriting role, Martin Gore crafted all ten tracks, marking a bold new chapter for the band. While even the group acknowledges it’s not their strongest effort, A Broken Frame remains an intriguing and enjoyable listen, capturing a transitional moment in Depeche Mode’s evolution and hinting at the darker, more mature sound that would define their future.
