Nothing New by Gil Scott-Heron is an album of stripped-down vocal and piano versions of his songs, recorded between 2005 and 2009 with producer Richard Russell. Originally intended as a simple revisit of old tracks, the sessions evolved into the 2010 album I’m New Here, featuring entirely new material. After Gil’s passing in 2011, Russell revisited those early recordings and assembled Nothing New, featuring intimate, minimalist versions of selected songs from across Gil’s career, chosen by Gil himself. The album also includes candid studio conversations, capturing the magic and simplicity of these reimagined classics.
