Kodama marks a ferocious return to the stylistic intensity of the band’s early work, while pushing their sound into new territory. Inspired by Japanese art and culture, and particularly Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke, the album explores themes of duality, belonging and living between worlds. Its cinematic, organic sound echoes Écailles De Lune, but with greater punch, rhythm and dynamism, balancing blackgaze aggression with atmospheric melodies and darker, more expansive textures.
