Whitelands’ second album expands on their acclaimed debut – praised by everyone from Slowdive to David Jonsson – with a brighter, more ambitious sound. Produced by Ian Flynn and mixed by Grammy-winner Eduardo De La Paz, it features strings by Iskra Strings and guest vocals from Emma Anderson (Lush).
Frontman Etienne Quartey-Papafio and bassist Vanessa Govinden describe the record as both risk-taking and deeply emotional: its first half breezy with Britpop touches, its second heavier and more intense. Themes of loss, endurance, and hope run throughout, born from personal and collective struggles over the past two years.
Sunlight Echoes is Whitelands’ most confident, melodic, and moving statement yet.
