Directed by Neil Jordan and based on a screenplay by Angela Carter and Jordan, the film is a modern, allegorical retelling of Grimm’s Little Red Riding Hood, exploring sexual awakening, duality, and liberation. The cast includes Sarah Patterson, Angela Lansbury, Stephen Rea, David Warner, and Danielle Dax. L. Hammond notes the score “swoops with cascading violins and dark undercurrents, juxtaposing innocence and desire,” capturing both suspense and beauty. Composer George Fenton, Oscar-nominated and Emmy- and BAFTA-winning, combined live instruments and electronics—bass flutes, pan pipes, violins, double basses, percussion, and Synclavier II—to create a dreamlike, impressionistic sound world. Fenton’s acclaimed career spans films and TV including Gandhi, Dangerous Liaisons, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, and Frozen Planet.
