Pure Comedy was written mostly in 2015 and recorded live to tape at Los Angeles’ United Studios in March 2016, with most takes done in two or fewer attempts. Co-produced by Josh Tillman and Jonathan Wilson, the album features string, horn, and choral arrangements by Gavin Bryars, with additional contributions from Nico Muhly and Thomas Bartlett, and was mixed by Tillman, Wilson, and Trevor Spencer and mastered by Bob Ludwig.
