Boygenius, formed by Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, came together after touring and forming deep friendships through shared experiences and chance encounters. Initially planning to record a 7-inch for their tour, they quickly decided to create a full EP after discovering they had more material than expected. In June 2018, they wrote and practiced for a day before recording at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles. Each brought personal songs to the project, with Baker’s urgency, Dacus’s emotive truths, and Bridgers’s raw, relatable storytelling blending seamlessly. The trio’s collaborative process balanced confidence with humility, resulting in a powerful collection of songs.
