Kamasi Washington’s EP Harmony of Difference, his first new music since 2015’s The Epic, was released via Young Turks and debuted at the 2017 Whitney Biennial. The six-part suite explores “counterpoint,” the art of balancing similarity and difference to create harmony. Each of the first five movements is unique, with the sixth, “Truth,” combining them into one performance. The EP is paired with artwork by Washington’s sister Amani, who created paintings inspired by each movement, and a film by A.G. Rojas celebrating diversity and harmony in South Central and East Los Angeles.
