It’s taken Sealed Records over five years to bring this release together, but it’s finally here: the one and only Bikini Mutants. Hailing from Yeovil, Somerset and part of the All the Madmen scene, the band had a brief existence, recording just two demos at Monitor Studios in 1982.
Let’s Mutate collects those recordings on a single LP, accompanied by a 20-page booklet packed with photos, lyrics, reviews and interviews. Though rooted in the West Country anarcho scene—sharing stages with bands like The Mob and The Review—their sound blended scratchy post-punk with indie pop sensibility.
Members would later go on to play in My Bloody Valentine and The Chesterfields, but here their early promise shines: intricate, delicate songs driven by tight rhythm, shimmering fuzz guitar, and Criss Cole’s angelic vocals. Think Girls at Our Best, Au Pairs, and The Marine Girls.
