Since CLPPNG, the members of Clipping have pursued diverse projects—William completing a PhD on experimental music, Jonathan scoring films, and Daveed performing on Broadway—that deeply influenced Splendor and Misery. This Afrofuturist dystopian concept album follows the lone survivor of a slave revolt on a spaceship and the ship’s AI who falls for him, with music and lyrics mapping the ship’s interior and rhythms, blending narrative and experimental sound.
