Ra to the Rescue was first pressed in limited quantities in 1983, with many tracks later appearing on albums like When Spaceships Appear and Cosmo-Party Blues—often under different, confusing titles. The recordings span several years and locations, including New York’s avant-garde Squat Theater, where Sun Ra’s Arkestra performed frequently between 1979-1982. Some tracks also come from 1984 Paris concerts captured for the documentary Mystery, Mr. Ra, though those recordings were never officially released. The album is a rare, eclectic collection reflecting Sun Ra’s diverse live and studio output during this period.
