Released in 1966 on Verve Records, Jimmy and Wes (The Dynamic Duo) is the only full-length studio collaboration between organist Jimmy Smith and guitarist Wes Montgomery. Produced by Creed Taylor and arranged by Oliver Nelson, it was recorded over three days at Rudy Van Gelder’s Englewood Cliffs studio with a brass- and reed-heavy ensemble featuring Grady Tate and Richard Davis. Nelson’s vibrant arrangements frame Smith’s fiery organ and Montgomery’s melodic guitar in a dynamic big band setting. Part of the Verve Vault Series, this reissue is mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
