Eartha Kitt's life was a remarkable American story. Born in 1927 in South Carolina to a Black and Cherokee mother and an unknown white father, she overcame a turbulent childhood to rise in the arts. After joining The Katherine Dunham Company in New York, she was cast by Orson Welles as Helen of Troy. Though a gifted actress and dancer, Kitt is best remembered for her unique voice, showcased on 1962’s Bad But Beautiful.
